2019 DEMI MARATHON-CAVAILLON-LES CAYES

HISTORY

The “First Edition” of Les Cayes Marathon, organized in 2018 was a longtime dream of Karl Joseph and Herzen Clergé. Of 144 entrants, 119 men and 11 women finished the race in style. As the co-founder and a runner who wanted to run the first edition, Karl Joseph was forced to drop out the morning of the race due to illness. Lead by race director Anselme Joseph, the team made good of their promise by delivering an exceptional “First Edition”. The success of the race was also made possible by the community spirit who embrace the event with pride, and a group of generous sponsors who decided to make history with LCM.

Despite Herzen Clergé reasons to start the race in Port-Salut, Karl Joseph convinced him that the race should start in Cavaillon, the birth place of Sylvio Cator, the first Haitian athlete who won an Olympic Medal (Silver) in Long jump in 1928 in Amsterdam.

The first 3 winners of both categories (Men and Women) received trophies plus monetary prices of $2500, $1500, $1000 respectively. Petrus Cesarion became the first athlete to cross the finish line in 1h 15mn 40s and Rosemonde Bazile came to be the first female athlete to finish the race in 1h 51mn 44s.
